Financial modelling masterclass

This course covers stage by stage model build up and the way accounting treatments can be reflected in a financial model.  The course considers how business change might incorporated in company analysis.

The course also includes detailed coverage of Excel functions helpful in modelling, as well as an introduction to VBA.

This is our most comprehensive financial modelling course.

Excel model build up

On the first two days of this course delegates work together to build up a model of integrated financial statements.

Step by step participants create a model, starting from a blank Excel spreadsheet, under the careful supervision of the course tutor.

Advanced Excel modelling exercises

On the third day course delegates tackle more advanced Excel modelling exercises using their newly-completed model to, for example, consider how you might incorporate a refinancing or a new deal.

Course participants also consider how to model detailed debt structures, often critical in successfully raising finance for acquisitions.

Advanced Excel functions

On the last two days course delegates cover advanced Excel functions that are likely to be helpful in financial modelling. Delegates work through particularly useful Excel functions, solving advanced data manipulation and financial modelling problems in class. This stage of the course includes an introduction to macros and Excel VBA programming. At this point in the course participants work together to build simple macros. Delegates also work on exercises which demonstrate how to begin solving complex data manipulation problems using VBA.

As a whole the course covers stage by stage model build up and the way accounting treatments can be reflected in a financial model. The course considers how business change might incorporated in company analysis.

The course also includes detailed coverage of Excel functions that are both (i) essential and (ii) often helpful in financial modelling, as well as an introduction to VBA.

This is our most comprehensive financial modelling course.

This course overlaps with our regular financial modelling course. The first three days of both courses are the same and both programs have the same core components. In both courses delegates work together to build up an integrated financial statement model, observing good modelling practice, and making use of Excel’s most helpful functions. Delegates also complete more advanced Excel modelling exercises, where they incorporate a new deal into their model, and analyse complicated acquisition debt structures.

First 3 days = the financial modelling course

For the first three days you will find yourself following our regular financial modelling course outline.

Days 4&5 = advanced financial modelling

On the fourth and fifth days of the masterclass you will be following the advanced financial modelling outline.

This part of the program is taught according to training delegates’ needs – and requests the group makes regarding Excel functions they would like covered. In advance the group agrees with the tutor which functions they would like taught and demonstrated. The aim here always is to make sure that attendees don’t spend a lot of time covering functions most people are familiar with.

Taught in small numbers

We always keep numbers on this course extremely low to preserve the learning experience.

We can’t be sure what you think of when someone says the word “training”. Here you definitely shouldn’t be thinking “lecturing”. You should be thinking “coaching”.

If you were trying to master another skill that required physical dexterity (imagine football) most people wouldn’t want to learn it by sitting in a lecture where someone tells you how to play football. Most people would rather get out there on the pitch in a small team, run onto the field, pass the ball and improve while the coach is running around with them, playing alongside them, giving them the most helpful tips as they go. That’s our style.

Whatever level you’re at with your modelling, in these very small groups, our trainers’ work alongside you to get you to the next level with your modelling.

As a result of using high-quality trainers, and teaching in very small class sizes, training delegates’ consistently give exceptionally strong reviews for our programs.

We have made available online every single one of our course reviews publicly here. The reviews consistently show very strong feedback for our financial modelling course training.
