    • Hints for answering the question = set out a table as per the downloadable spreadsheet in the compounding course challenge.  Alternatively, take a short cut and construct the following formula in Excel: “=10*(1+8%)^3”

    • Hint A = we know that the 20m has been compounded at a growth rate so that it has turned into 60m in five years
    • Hint B = 20x(1+IRR)^5 = 60
    • Hint C = use a bit of algebra (which admittedly you may be a bit rusty on) to re-arrange the equation
    • Hint D = IRR = (60/20)^(1/5)-1
    • Hint E = enter the above formula into a cell in the Excel spreadsheet: “=(60/20)^(1/5)-1”
