Index formula

Earlier on in the course we cover a couple of ‘data picking’ solutions with you: the Vlookup formula and the Choose formula where you’ve got a simple data set.

Next we add Index to the mix but as it starts to become hard to remember all the various data picking solutions, rest assured you only need one e.g. Vlookup for modelling survival.

Some of our financial modelling course delegates prefer Index, often combined with the Match function.

Those who prefer Index seem to be fans of its logic. Those ‘in the know’ appreciate that Index is a little less memory hungry and helps minimise spreadsheet size when you’re manipulating huge volumes of data.

Excel's index formula

This lesson is about some other alternatives to the Vlookup function, starting with Index. Some modellers definitely prefer its logic and the fact that it uses less Excel memory.
